Nancy Reagan’s Vienna Bars

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together softened butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add almond extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
  4. Gradually incorporate flour into the mixture until a crumbly dough forms.
  5. Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
  6. Spread raspberry jam evenly over the crust layer.
  7. Mix sliced almonds with the remaining dough and sprinkle the mixture over the jam layer.
  8. Bake the Vienna bars in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  9. Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting them into squares and serving.
