How to Store Chili Peppers So They Stay Fresh, Juicy, and Flavorful for Months

❄️ Method 2: Freezing Chilies for Long-Term Use

If you want to store chilies for up to a year, freezing is the best option. While the texture may soften slightly after thawing, the flavor and spiciness remain intact — perfect for cooking.

Step 1: Select and Clean

Pick only firm, unblemished chilies. Remove any spoiled or shriveled ones. Detach the stems completely to save space, then rinse the chilies thoroughly under clean water.

Step 2: Dry Thoroughly

Spread the washed chilies on a kitchen towel or paper napkin and let them dry completely. Any moisture left on the surface can cause freezer burn or ice crystals.

Step 3: Store in Zip-Lock Bags or Containers

Once dry, place the chilies in zipper storage bags or airtight containers made for freezing. Remove as much air as possible before sealing to prevent freezer burn.

Finally, store them in the freezer compartment. When frozen, chilies retain their vibrant red or green color and remain usable for up to a year.

💡 Note: After thawing, the skin may become softer, so use them immediately for cooking — in stir-fries, soups, or sauces.
